Sh*t Agencies Say
A segment where we call out the nonsense that some agencies throw at their clients. At Lure, we believe in transparency above all else. We’re frank, we’re honest, and we put you first.
Unlike the other guys, we don’t sugarcoat things or use fancy jargon to make you feel like you're getting something you’re not. Our goal is simple — to make sure you get the best value for your investment, with clear communication on exactly what that involves. Keep reading to find out how we set ourselves apart from the typical agency spiel.
“YOU NEED TO BE ON EVERY PLATFORM”
Not every social platform is going to be right for your business, and that’s okay. A good strategist will prioritise the platforms that make sense for your brand and its audience.
Agencies that insist you need to be on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, Pinterest, YouTube, and whatever platform is trending this week are more concerned with upselling you on additional services than delivering results.
Even worse? Agencies who manage multiple platforms can sometimes use the same cookie-cutter approach for each. In reality, every app has its own unique features and conventions to take advantage of; and each one requires its own fully fledged strategy.
That’s why quality always beats quantity when it comes to building meaningful connections with your target market.
“WE GUARANTEE PAGE 1 RANKING IN 30 DAYS”
If an agency promises overnight SEO success, it’s time to run. Achieving page one rankings involves consistent effort: continued research, on-page optimisation, content creation, backlinks, and more.
Quick fixes, like buying low-quality backlinks or overloading your pages with keywords, can trigger short-term results; but they’ll also put your site at risk of penalties from search engines like Google. That can mean losing all your progress.
The best agencies play the long game, creating sustainable strategies that build authority and rankings over time. A good rule of thumb: if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. We always tell clients that we see the best results in six months.
“WE DO THE TECHNICAL SEO BUT NO CONTENT”
This one’s a classic. SEO isn’t just about fixing technical errors; it’s about regularly producing quality keyword-rich content that resonates with your audience and makes search engine algorithms happy. So, when an SEO agency claims they can optimise your site without writing a single piece of content, you should be skeptical. They’re cutting corners and you’re essentially paying them to do a third of the work needed to optimise a website.
If your website is technically sound but lacks valuable content, it won’t rank well because search engines prioritise sites that (1) provide value to users and (2) are regularly updated.
Likewise, you can have the best content in the world, but if your website isn’t healthy on the back-end, your content won’t be seen by your target audience. Look for an agency that can handle both technical and content SEO.
“YOU NEED A BIGGER BUDGET FOR META ADS”
A bigger budget allows Meta to reach more people and gives you more room to experiment with creatives, which usually translates to more conversions than a smaller budget. But this doesn’t mean that you can’t do great things with lower ad spends — or that a bigger ad spend is guaranteed to get you a high return on investment.
While increasing ad spend over time is a part of successful Meta advertising, starting small is fine while we test what works. Only once we start seeing results do we look at scaling up. Since our agency rates increase as your budget does, we’ll never ask you to spend more if we aren’t delivering on performance.
